Pale Waves were created in 2014 when Heather Baron-Gracie (vocals, rhythm guitar) and Ciara Doran (drums) met each other at the British and Irish Modern Music Institute of Manchester. They found Ben Bateman (lead guitar and Ryan Marsden (bass) who both abandoned group in 2015. Hugo Silvani (lead guitar, keyboard) and Charlie Wood (bass, keyboard) took their places and they started their first recordings.
After Wave made their first contract, the group’s first release was the song “There’s a Honey” which came out in November of 2017 and brought Wave their first recognition. They opened for The 1975 and later followed their own tour around North America. The group’s first EP named “All the Things I Never Said” came out in February of 2018 and included two new songs along with re-recorded versions of two previous ones. Waves won their first music award at 2018’s NME Awards while they continued releasing new songs. Their first album finally came out in September of that year peaking at no. 8 on the album charts in the UK. It also topped the UK Independent Albums chart, as well as the Billboard’s Top Heatseekers in the USA.
Pale Waves’ sound is something between indie pop and rock style, including elements from other genres such as gothic-rock and synth-pop.
