Hippo Campus were created in 2013 in St. Paul, Minnesota when four classmates of Saint Paul Conservatory for Performing Artists met each other and decided to form a band. Vocalist (and guitarist) Jake Luppen, guitarist Nathan Stocker, bassist Zach Sutton and drummer Whistler Allen are the band’s members, most of them used to play in other music groups.
The band’s first release was 2013’s “Tarzan Reject”, which was taken down later. Some of its songs were rerecorded and we included to their first EP named “Bashful Creatures” which came out in November of next year. After they signed a contract Hippo Campus released it again in 2015 and they followed a series of live performances, with bands such as Walk the Moon, Modest Mouse, My Morning Jacket and others. A new EP came out in October of the same year under the name “South”. The band’s first album was “Landmark” which came out in February of 2017 and was followed by the EP “warm glow” a few months later. Multi-instrumentalist DeCarlo Jackson had become the new member and the band continued with an international tour, including appearances in various fests, especially in the USA and the UK.
Hippo Campus’ second album named “Bambi” came out in September of 2018 and apart from its indie rock sound, it contained elements of indie pop and experimental rock. It was followed by a worldwide tour, including live performances in South Korea, even Thailand in 2019.
