Dorothy’s history started in 2014 in Los Angeles, California, when vocalist Dorothy Martin met Guitarist Mark Jackson and with the help of a producer they decided to create a rock band. They were joined by Gregg Cash (bass) and Zac Morris (drums) and their first recording was the song “After Midnight”.
After a series of live appearances including a couple of stops in Europe, the band recorded its first homonymous EP which came out in December and was included in Rolling Stone’s list with the “Best New Artists” of that year. Dorothy followed Miguel on his 2015 summer tour while they finished their first album in 2016. “Rockisdead” entered the US Billboard and topped the Heatseekers Albums chart. They toured during the next Spring until the Fall and their next release was 2017’s single “Down to the Bottom”, while there were a few changes to the band’s formation during the same year. Jason Ganberg and Eliot Lorango (who had participated in the group’s first recordings) became the new drummer and new bassist respectively. They also joined by guitarists Nick Maybury (who left in 2018) and Eli Wulfmeier.
Dorothy’s next album came out in March of 2018, under the name “28 Days in the Valley”, with the participation of Linda Perry. Its sound is less hard compared to the debut one, with a lot of blues rock elements.
