Bad Wolves were created in Los Angeles, California, one year after John Boecklin (drums) entered the studio to record his songs in 2016. He was joined by Tommy Vext (vocals), Doc Coyle (lead guitar), Chris Cain (rhythm guitar) and Kyle Konkiel (bass).
The heavy metal group’s first release was the song “Learn to Live” and their first album came out in May of 2018, under the name “Disobey”. The album apart from its groove metal style, has also hard rock and progressive rock elements and peaked at no. 23 on the US Billboard 200 chart, with their cover to The Cranberries’ “Zombie” to separate. The song reached no. 54 on the Billboard Hot 100 (no. 5 on the Hot Rock Songs chart and no. 1 on the Mainstream Rock chart), although Wolves didn’t manage to record it with Dolores O’Riordan, since the Irish singer died before meeting with the group.
After the album release, Bad Wolves began touring with bands such as Shinedown, Five Finger Death Punch and Breaking Benjamin, while they have started a funding project in order to gather an appropriate amount of money for a possible upcoming documentary about their story. The group will follow Papa Roach’s tour in the upcoming July, along with Asking Alexandria.
Four days after O’Riordan’s death, Bad Wolves released the cover version of “Zombie”, which includes two more stanzas at the end, while they decided to donate 250.000 dollars to her children, after a concert in the summer of 2018, in New York. A video version of the song had been also released in January of that year and it contains a brief report to the facts before the recording. There is also a connection between the video clip and the original from Cranberries and it has to do with the appearance of a woman painted with gold color, which reminds O’Riordan’s golden display.
